Florida-Specific Food Notes
Lactose-free milk: Florida WIC specifically approves lactose-free milk options for participants with lactose intolerance β an important option in a state with a large Latin American population where lactose intolerance is more prevalent. Ask your WIC nutritionist to note this on your benefits if needed.
Tofu: Florida WIC approves tofu as a protein option. Check the Florida WIC App or the food list at floridahealth.gov for currently approved brands and package sizes.
Haitian Creole shopping guide: Florida WIC publishes its food list and program materials in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole (KreyΓ²l), reflecting the significant Haitian-American WIC population in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Canned fish: Approved for women and children. Check the current food list at floridahealth.gov for approved varieties and package sizes.
Fruits and vegetables CVB: $26 per month for children, $47 per month for pregnant or postpartum women, $52 per month for breastfeeding women. Fresh, frozen, and canned options without added sugar, salt, or sauces are all eligible.
Shopping Tips for Florida WIC
Use the Florida WIC App to scan barcodes before putting items in your cart β it's the fastest way to confirm approval without guessing at checkout. Check your EBT balance before shopping by calling 866-629-1095 or visiting the WIC EBT online system. Benefits do not roll over month to month.
One Florida-specific rule to remember: all Florida WIC offices close at noon on the last day of each month for inventory and staff training. If you need to call your local office for a shopping issue, plan around this.
If you suspect WIC benefit misuse, Florida has a dedicated fraud reporting line: 855-283-5135.
