Kansas WIC Food List
Kansas WIC food benefits are loaded onto an eWIC card โ managed through the Kansas WIC Management Information System known as KWIC โ and accepted at hundreds of authorized grocery stores across the state. Your specific monthly food package is determined at your certification appointment based on your participant category and nutritional assessment. Kansas WIC updates its approved product list regularly; use the WIC Shopper App (available on the App Store and Google Play) for the most current list of eligible brands and package sizes.
Food Categories
- Dairy: Milk is a core food package component. Children ages 12โ23 months receive whole milk; all other participants receive low-fat milk. Up to two quarts of yogurt may substitute for an equal volume of milk. One pound of cheese may substitute for three quarts of dairy. Soy-based beverages may be available as a milk substitute for participants with a documented medical or nutritional need โ ask your WIC health professional.
- Eggs: One or two dozen per month depending on participant category. Peanut butter, beans, or tofu may substitute for eggs โ one container per one dozen eggs substituted.
- Whole grains: Iron-fortified hot and cold cereals, whole grain bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, tortillas (whole wheat or corn), and other whole grain options per the Kansas WIC Food Package Guide (effective January 1, 2026).
- Fruits and vegetables: A monthly Cash Value Benefit โ the amount shown on your benefit card โ for fresh, frozen, and canned produce without added sugars. A $3 Cash Value Benefit may substitute for a 64-ounce container of juice.
- Legumes: Dried and canned beans and peas. Peanut butter and beans may be used interchangeably within the food package allowance.
- Peanut butter: Creamy or chunky, any brand. May substitute for beans within the package allowance.
- Tofu: Available as a substitution for eggs โ one container per one dozen eggs substituted.
- Canned fish: Included in food packages for children ages 12 months through 5 years, pregnant participants, postpartum participants, and breastfeeding participants. The amount varies by participant category per the Kansas WIC Food Package Guide (effective January 1, 2026).
- Juice: 100% vitamin C-rich fruit or vegetable juice, unsweetened. One container per month. A $3 Cash Value Benefit may substitute for a 64-ounce container of juice.
- Infant foods: Iron-fortified infant cereal, jarred baby food (fruits, vegetables, and meats), and WIC-approved infant formula. Special medical formulas require physician documentation submitted to your WIC clinic.
