To qualify for WIC in Colorado, your household's income needs to fall at or below the limits shown below — or you may qualify automatically if you're already enrolled in a program like Medicaid or SNAP. Colorado WIC Income Guidelines
WIC compares your household's gross income against 185% of the federal poverty guidelines, updated annually by the USDA. These guidelines apply in Colorado from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.

Automatic Income Eligibility in Colorado
If anyone in your household already participates in Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid program), Colorado Works (Colorado's TANF cash assistance program), SNAP, or FDPIR, you automatically meet WIC's income requirement — no separate income documentation needed. Bring your enrollment card or a recent notice from any of those programs to your appointment instead of pay stubs. Note that Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) does not qualify for automatic income eligibility in Colorado, since its income guidelines run higher than WIC's.
What Counts as Income in Colorado
Colorado WIC counts gross household income before taxes — wages, self-employment earnings, Social Security payments, child support, alimony, unemployment benefits, and military pay. SNAP benefits, housing assistance, and tax refunds are not counted. If you're pregnant, you count as two people in the household — yourself and the unborn child, with each additional baby in a multiple pregnancy counted separately — which can shift you into a more favorable income bracket.
Income Is Not the Only Requirement
Falling under the income limit is one part of qualifying — Colorado WIC also requires a nutritional risk finding from a WIC health professional at your free appointment, which nearly all applicants meet in some form. Income limits are adjusted annually, so it's worth applying even if you were turned away or came in slightly over the limit in a previous year.
Colorado Income Limit Questions
Do I automatically qualify for WIC if I receive Health First Colorado or SNAP?
Yes. If anyone in your household participates in Health First Colorado (Medicaid), Colorado Works (TANF), SNAP, or FDPIR, you automatically meet WIC's income requirement — bring documentation of that enrollment to your appointment instead of pay stubs.
Does having CHP+ automatically qualify me for WIC in Colorado?
No. Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) does not trigger automatic income eligibility in Colorado, since its income guidelines are higher than WIC's. If you have CHP+ but not Medicaid, you'll need to provide standard income documentation.
Does my unborn baby count as a household member?
Yes. A pregnant person counts as two people (herself and her unborn child) when Colorado WIC calculates household size, which can move you into a more favorable income bracket.
Is meeting the income limit enough to qualify for WIC in Colorado?
No. Income eligibility is one requirement — Colorado WIC also requires a nutritional risk determination made by a WIC health professional at your free certification appointment.
