How to Apply for WIC in Missouri

Missouri WIC is delivered through more than 115 local agencies rather than a single state office, so applying starts with finding or contacting the agency that serves your area. You can complete the online interest form at mowicinterestform.health.mo.gov and a WIC local agency will reach out to schedule your appointment, call TEL-LINK at 1-800-TEL-LINK (1-800-835-5465) to be connected to the agency in your county, or call the Missouri WIC state office at 800-392-8209. Note that the online interest form is not a full application — a certification appointment with a WIC nutritionist is still required.

Before Your Appointment

• Proof of identity — for adults, a photo ID such as a driver's license, passport, voter ID card, state ID, or military ID; for infants and children, a birth certificate, hospital records, or immunization records
• Proof of Missouri residency — a current utility bill, personal bill, rent or mortgage receipt, pay stub with your physical address, or voter ID card
• Proof of income — recent pay stubs, W-2 forms, or an unemployment letter. If your household receives SNAP, Temporary Assistance, or a qualifying MO HealthNet plan, bring that enrollment documentation instead — no income proof is needed
• Foster placement letter, if applying for a foster child under age 5

What Happens at Your Appointment

A WIC nutritionist reviews your documents, completes a health and nutrition assessment, and determines your food package. If you're approved, your WIC card is loaded with your first month of benefits, often the same day. Many local agencies can complete part or all of the certification process by phone rather than requiring an in-person visit — ask your local agency what's available before you schedule.

Recertification in Missouri

Certification periods follow federal guidelines: pregnant participants are certified through pregnancy and six months postpartum (twelve months if breastfeeding), infants are recertified around six months and again near their first birthday, and children are recertified every six to twelve months until age five. Your local agency will notify you before your certification period ends — schedule your recertification appointment early, since benefits stop on the end date if you haven't recertified.

Moving To or From Missouri

If you're moving to Missouri from another state, contact a local Missouri WIC agency and bring the Verification of Certification (VOC) form from your previous state. If you're leaving Missouri, ask your WIC agency for a VOC form before you go so your new state can continue your benefits without starting the certification process over. Your Missouri WIC card only works at authorized vendors within Missouri.
