Vermont WIC Program

Vermont's WIC program is run by the Vermont Department of Health and delivered through local district health offices serving every county in the state. It provides free nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthcare and community services for pregnant Vermonters and parents and caregivers with children under 5 — welcoming all family structures, including fathers, grandparents, foster parents, and legal guardians.

Who WIC Serves in Vermont

WIC is open to pregnant women, women up to six months after giving birth (or up to a year if breastfeeding), infants, and children up to their 5th birthday. To qualify, a household needs to meet income guidelines and show a nutrition-related risk, which a WIC staff member or your doctor can help confirm.

What Your Benefits Include

Approved participants receive monthly funds for foods like milk, eggs, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and infant formula, along with nutrition education and breastfeeding support. Vermont WIC also connects families to other community resources, including 3SquaresVT (Vermont's SNAP program), Reach Up (Vermont's TANF program), Dr. Dynasaur (Vermont's children's Medicaid/CHIP program), Hunger Free Vermont, the Vermont Food Bank, Help Me Grow, and Vermont 211. Households already enrolled in 3SquaresVT, Reach Up, or Dr. Dynasaur automatically meet WIC's income requirement.

Eligible participants can also join the seasonal Farm to Family program, which provides coupons to buy fresh, locally grown produce at participating Vermont farmers' markets and farm stands.

Remote appointments

Vermont WIC offers remote appointments for many visits — local offices provide phone and video options in addition to in-person visits, with interpretation services available at no cost for any format. This can make it easier for families in rural parts of the state to stay connected with their WIC nutritionist without traveling to an office.
