Alaska WIC Approved Foods

Updated August 2026

Once you're approved for Alaska WIC, your benefits are loaded monthly onto a WIC card that works like a debit card at authorized stores. Here's what's covered, how to check whether a specific brand or item is approved, and how the cash-value benefit for fruits and vegetables works.

Approved WIC Foods in Alaska

Alaska WIC food benefits are loaded monthly onto an eWIC card redeemable at authorized grocery stores statewide. Download the free WICShopper app to track your balance, confirm an item is approved before you buy it, and find authorized stores near you. You can also manage your card through the ebtEDGE online portal at ebtedge.com or by calling eWIC Customer Service at 1-844-386-3149. The full Alaska WIC Approved Products List and the shorter WIC Foods Guide are both available at health.alaska.gov.

Fruits and Vegetables (Cash Value Benefit)

Every participant receives a monthly Cash Value Benefit (CVB) for fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables without added sugars, fats, or oils: $26 a month for children, $48 for pregnant or postpartum participants, and $52 for breastfeeding participants. Your exact balance is shown in the WICShopper app or on your last store receipt.

Farmers' Market Nutrition Program

Alaska WIC's Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) provides eligible participants with electronic food benefits — $45 per eligible family member for the current season — to buy fresh, unprepared, Alaska-grown fruits, vegetables, and fresh-cut herbs at participating farmers' markets, authorized farms, and roadside stands. The season typically runs June through October, and benefits do not carry over once the season ends. Ask your local WIC clinic whether FMNP is available in your area and how to enroll.

Whole Grains, Dairy, and Protein

  • Whole wheat bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, corn or whole wheat tortillas, and approved iron-fortified cereals
  • Milk (low-fat, non-fat, or lactose-free), soy beverage, and tofu for qualifying participants
  • Cheese and yogurt in approved varieties and sizes
  • Eggs, peanut butter, and dried or canned beans, peas, and lentils
  • Canned fish — including pink salmon, tuna, sardines, and mackerel — for breastfeeding participants and children ages 2–5

Infant Foods

Formula-fed infants receive iron-fortified infant formula, while breastfed infants receive an enhanced food package. Infants 6–12 months can receive iron-fortified infant cereal and jarred infant fruits, vegetables, and meats, depending on feeding method.

Shopping Tips

Use the WICShopper app to scan a barcode at the store and instantly check whether a product is approved before you get to the register. If an item won't scan, check the current Approved Products List or WIC Foods Guide, or ask your local clinic. Benefits expire at the end of each monthly benefit period and do not roll over, so plan your shopping trips accordingly.
