Automatic Income Eligibility in Kansas
If your household already participates in KanCare (Kansas Medicaid, delivered through Healthy Blue Kansas, Sunflower State Health Plan, or UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Kansas), SNAP, or TANF through the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF), you automatically meet WIC's income requirement — no separate income documentation needed. What Counts as Income in Kansas
Kansas WIC counts gross household income before taxes — wages, self-employment earnings, Social Security payments, child support, alimony, unemployment benefits, and military pay. SNAP benefits, housing assistance, and tax refunds are not counted. A pregnant applicant counts as two household members (herself and her unborn child), which can shift a smaller household into a more favorable income bracket.
Income Is Not the Only Requirement
Falling under the income limit is one part of qualifying — Kansas WIC also requires a medical or nutritional need finding from a WIC health professional at your free appointment, which nearly all applicants meet in some form.
