How to Apply for WIC in Georgia

Georgia offers a full online WIC application through the Georgia Gateway website at gateway.ga.gov/access. After you submit it, your county WIC clinic contacts you to schedule a nutrition assessment appointment. You can also call the Georgia Department of Public Health WIC Program at 1-800-228-9173, or contact your local county or district health department directly. The free Georgia WIC Mobile App (iOS and Android) helps you manage appointments and benefits once you're enrolled.

Before Your Appointment

Some Georgia health districts allow you to submit documents in advance — check with your local clinic about what's available before you go. For your appointment, bring:

• Photo ID for every family member applying — driver's license, passport, birth certificate, or other government-issued ID
• Proof of Georgia address — utility bill, lease, or recent mail with your name and address
• Proof of income — pay stubs, employer letter, or tax return for all working adults in the household. If your household receives Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF, bring that enrollment documentation instead
• For infants and children — birth certificate or hospital record
• For pregnant applicants — documentation of pregnancy from a healthcare provider, if available

What Happens at Your Appointment

At your nutrition assessment appointment, WIC staff conduct a health screening that includes body measurements, a hemoglobin check, a review of medical and nutrition history, and one-on-one nutrition counseling. If approved, your Georgia eWIC card is loaded with food benefits at the appointment. Many Georgia health districts — including several around Atlanta and coastal Georgia — offer virtual appointment options in addition to in-person visits; ask your local clinic which is available in your county.

Recertification in Georgia

Pregnant participants are certified through six weeks postpartum, non-breastfeeding postpartum participants continue for up to six months, and breastfeeding participants can remain enrolled for up to a year after delivery. Children are reassessed every six months. Your local clinic will notify you before your certification period ends.

Moving To or From Georgia

If you're moving to Georgia from another state, contact your local county health department WIC office and bring the Verification of Certification (VOC) form from your previous state. If you're leaving Georgia, ask your clinic for a VOC form before you go so your new state can continue your benefits without starting over. Your Georgia eWIC card only works at authorized vendors within Georgia.
