How to Apply for WIC in Mississippi

Mississippi offers both a full online application and in-person applications at your local county health department — one of the more accessible starting points among WIC states. Either way, a certification appointment at a local clinic is required to finish enrolling and receive your eWIC card.

Option 1: Apply Online

Visit the Mississippi WIC online application from your phone or computer. It takes 15-20 minutes and lets you upload photos of your identity, residence, and income documents directly through the form.

Important: partially completed applications cannot be saved. Gather your documents before you start so you can finish in one sitting.

Option 2: Apply In Person

Apply at your local county health department or WIC clinic. To schedule an appointment, call the WIC Call Center at 1-800-338-6747.

Documents to Bring

• Proof of identity — a valid driver's license, state ID, U.S. passport, birth certificate, social security card, military ID, or current shot record (a newborn crib card works for infants)
• Proof of Mississippi residence — a current utility bill, bank statement, mortgage or rental agreement, or a driver's license with your current address
• Proof of income — a pay stub less than 60 days old, a signed employer statement of gross earnings, a current W-2, or a recent tax return. If your household receives Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF, bring that enrollment documentation instead

What Happens at Your Appointment

A nurse or nutritionist verifies your documents, measures height and weight, checks hemoglobin (iron) levels, and completes a short nutrition assessment — the federal nutritional-risk requirement for WIC. If you're approved, you'll leave with your eWIC card and first month of food benefits, plus sign-up instructions for the WICShopper shopping app and the Pacify telelactation app.

Recertification

Pregnant participants are certified through pregnancy and six months postpartum (twelve months if breastfeeding). Infants are recertified around six months and again near their first birthday. Children are recertified every six to twelve months until their fifth birthday. Contact your local clinic before your certification period ends to avoid a gap in benefits.

Moving To or From Mississippi

If you're moving to Mississippi from another state, contact a local WIC clinic and bring the Verification of Certification (VOC) form from your previous state. If you're leaving Mississippi, ask your clinic for a VOC form before you go so your new state can continue your benefits without starting over.
