Michigan WIC Approved Foods

Updated August 2026

Once you're approved for Michigan WIC, your benefits are loaded monthly onto a WIC card that works like a debit card at authorized stores. Here's what's covered, how to check whether a specific brand or item is approved, and how the cash-value benefit for fruits and vegetables works.

Approved WIC Foods in Michigan

Michigan WIC's Approved Product List (APL) is maintained by MDHHS, with the current WIC Food Guide in effect since March 1, 2026 and available in English, Spanish, and Arabic. Approved categories include milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs, whole grains, 100% juice, beans, peanut butter, tofu, canned fish, infant formula, and baby food. The free WIC Connect app lets participants scan barcodes while shopping to confirm an item is approved, and a growing number of local agencies now support WIC online shopping at select participating retailers.

Cash Value Benefit for Fruits and Vegetables

Every Michigan WIC participant receives a monthly Cash Value Benefit (CVB) for fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables, redeemable at authorized grocery stores and pharmacies statewide. Current base monthly amounts are $26 for children, $48 for pregnant and postpartum participants, and $52 for breastfeeding participants. Benefits do not roll over month to month, so use them before the end of each benefit period.

WIC Produce Connection

Michigan WIC participants (excluding infants) also receive seasonal benefits through the WIC Produce Connection program — Michigan's Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, formerly known as Project FRESH — loaded directly onto the WIC EBT card and usable from June 1 through November 11 each year at Authorized Growers, farmers markets, and roadside stands across the state for locally grown, fresh, unprepared fruits and vegetables. Look for the "WIC Produce Connection/WIC CVB Benefits Accepted Here" sign at participating stands. Michigan runs the 13th-largest WIC farmers' market program in the country and the third-largest in the USDA Midwest Region.

Shopping Tips

Look for WIC shelf tags on approved items, and use the WIC Connect app to scan barcodes and confirm an item is covered before you check out. If an item won't scan as approved, ask your local WIC agency or check the current food guide at michigan.gov/mdhhs.
