Nebraska WIC Approved Foods
Updated August 2026
Once you're approved for Nebraska WIC, your benefits are loaded monthly onto a WIC card that works like a debit card at authorized stores. Here's what's covered, how to check whether a specific brand or item is approved, and how the cash-value benefit for fruits and vegetables works.
Approved WIC Foods in Nebraska
Nebraska WIC food benefits are loaded monthly onto an eWIC card and can be used at more than 300 authorized retail vendors statewide, from major grocery chains to local independent stores. Download the free WICShopper app — select Nebraska as your WIC agency and register with the 16-digit number on your eWIC card — to scan barcodes, check your benefit balance, and confirm approved foods before you shop.
Fruits and Vegetables
Every participant receives a monthly Cash Value Benefit (CVB) for fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables without added sugar, salt, or sauces. The current monthly CVB is $26 for children, $48 for pregnant or postpartum participants, and $52 for breastfeeding participants. Benefits do not roll over month to month, so use them before your benefit period ends.
Whole Grains, Dairy, and Protein
Approved options include 100% whole wheat bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, corn and whole wheat tortillas, oatmeal, and approved cereals; low-fat, non-fat, or lactose-free milk (soy milk is also approved); cheese and yogurt in specified sizes; eggs; peanut butter or dried and canned beans and peas; and canned fish — light tuna, salmon, sardines, or mackerel — for women and children. Check the WICShopper app or the current Nebraska WIC Approved Food List for exact approved brands and sizes, since the list is updated periodically.
Infant Foods
Formula-fed infants receive iron-fortified infant formula, while breastfed infants receive an enhanced food package that can include jarred infant fruits, vegetables, and meats. Infants 6-12 months also receive iron-fortified infant cereal.
Shopping Tips
Look for the WIC "Shop Here" door decal at authorized stores, and use the WICShopper app to scan a product's barcode before adding it to your cart to confirm the exact brand and size are approved. Once enrolled, participants can also order WIC-approved groceries online for free pickup at participating Hy-Vee stores — Nebraska's online ordering partnership with Iowa WIC and Minnesota WIC was the first program of its kind in the country. Keep your receipt after checkout; it shows your remaining benefit balance for the month.
