How to Apply for WIC in New Hampshire

New Hampshire WIC offers an online pre-application, phone appointments, and in-person visits — start with whichever works best for you. Submit the pre-application at nhwic.com/preapplicationportal, which asks for your household names, address, and language needs and lets you choose your preferred town and clinic; a WIC staff member will then call to schedule your appointment. Important: If you're transferring from another state's WIC program, don't use the online pre-application — call 1-800-942-4321 so staff can connect you directly with your local agency and process the transfer.

Documents to Bring

• Photo ID for each person applying — driver's license, birth certificate, or passport
• Proof of New Hampshire residency — utility bill, lease, rent receipt, or addressed mail
• Proof of income from the last 30 days — pay stubs or an employer letter. Not required if your household is enrolled in NH Medicaid, SNAP, or FANF
• Proof of NH Medicaid, SNAP, or FANF enrollment, if applicable, in place of income documents

What Happens at Your Appointment

Appointments are available in person or by phone at NH WIC clinics statewide. A WIC nutritionist weighs and measures each person applying, runs a brief finger-stick blood test for anemia, and talks through your family's health and nutrition goals. If your household uses a private well, staff may offer a free water testing kit through the Water Well-ness Initiative, and children receive a brief CDC-based developmental milestone check. If you're found eligible, your eWIC card is loaded with your first month of benefits the same day.

Recertification

Certification periods follow federal guidelines: pregnant participants are certified through delivery, breastfeeding participants for up to a year postpartum, non-breastfeeding postpartum participants for six months, infants around 6 months and again near their first birthday, and children every 6 months. Your local agency notifies you before your certification ends — schedule ahead, since benefits stop on your end date if you haven't recertified.

Moving To or From New Hampshire

If you're moving to New Hampshire from another state, call 1-800-942-4321 and bring the Verification of Certification (VOC) form from your previous state so your local agency can continue your benefits without restarting the certification process. If you're leaving New Hampshire, ask your WIC agency for a VOC form before you go. Your New Hampshire eWIC card only works at authorized vendors within the state.
