West Virginia WIC Approved Foods

West Virginia WIC food benefits are loaded monthly onto an eWIC card, redeemable at more than 250 authorized grocery stores statewide. Benefits expire at midnight on the end date of each benefit period — unspent amounts do not carry forward, and refunds, rain checks, and exchanges are not allowed on WIC purchases.

WICShopper App

The free WICShopper app lets you scan a product's barcode in the store to instantly confirm whether it's approved for your household. Select West Virginia in the app, scan before you check out, and use the "I couldn't buy this!" feature to report an item that should be approved but doesn't scan. WICSmart is a separate platform where participants complete required nutrition education lessons between appointments — it's not a shopping tool.

Fruits and Vegetables (Cash Value Benefit)

Every participant receives a monthly Cash Value Benefit (CVB) for fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables: $26 for children, $48 for pregnant or postpartum participants, and $52 for breastfeeding participants. The CVB covers fresh produce (including all colors of potatoes), canned fruit packed in juice, and canned or frozen vegetables without added sugar, sauces, or oils. Benefits don't roll over month to month, so use them before the benefit period ends.

Farmers' Market Nutrition Program

Each year from June through October, eligible WIC participants also receive Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) benefits — separate from the monthly CVB — to buy fresh, unprepared fruits, vegetables, and herbs from state-approved farmers and farmers' markets. Redemption is done with a QR code on your eWIC card or in the WICShopper app; farmers scan the code and you enter your PIN, the same way you'd use it for regular WIC purchases. Your regular fruit and vegetable CVB, unlike FMNP, can be used year-round at WIC-approved farmers and markets.
