How to Apply for WIC in Florida

Florida WIC does not have a single statewide online application. Applications and appointments are handled locally through county health departments in all 67 counties. To get started, call the State WIC Office toll-free at 800-342-3556 (or 850-245-4202) and say you want to apply for WIC — you'll receive a call back to schedule a certification appointment at the clinic nearest you. You can also contact your local county health department's WIC office directly, or chat with Willow, Florida WIC's 24-hour virtual assistant on the Florida Department of Health WIC website, which can answer eligibility questions and help schedule your appointment.

Before Your Appointment

• ID for every family member applying — driver's license, passport, birth certificate, immunization card, or other government-issued ID
• Proof of Florida address — utility bill, lease, bank or insurance statement, or recent mail with your name and address (no P.O. boxes)
• Proof of income — pay stubs covering the last 28-31 days for everyone in the household, or an employer letter or tax return. If your household receives Medicaid, SNAP, or TCA, bring that enrollment documentation instead
• For infants and children — birth certificate or hospital record, plus immunization records if available
• Social Security number for each person applying, if available

What Happens at Your Appointment

A licensed WIC nutritionist or nutrition educator reviews your household income and completes a nutrition assessment for each applicant, including height and weight measurements and a review of nutrition history. If you're approved, your Florida WIC EBT card is loaded with food benefits the same day and you can start shopping right away.

Recertification in Florida

Certification periods follow federal guidelines: pregnant participants are certified through delivery, breastfeeding participants for up to a year postpartum, non-breastfeeding postpartum participants for six months, and children annually. Your local WIC office will notify you before your certification period ends — benefits stop on the end date, so schedule your recertification appointment well ahead of time.

The Florida WIC App

Once you're enrolled, download the free Florida WIC Mobile App on iOS or Android. It shows your food benefits and upcoming appointments, lets you scan barcodes in the store to confirm an item is approved, helps you upload documents for certification, and helps you find nearby WIC-authorized stores and clinics. The app includes Willow, a virtual assistant that can answer WIC questions any time.

Moving To or From Florida

If you're moving to Florida from another state, contact your local county WIC office and bring the Verification of Certification (VOC) form from your previous state. If you're leaving Florida, ask your WIC office for a VOC form before you go so your new state can continue your benefits without starting over. Your Florida WIC EBT card only works at authorized vendors within Florida.
