Washington WIC Approved Foods

Updated August 2026

Once you're approved for Washington WIC, your benefits are loaded monthly onto a WIC card that works like a debit card at authorized stores. Here's what's covered, how to check whether a specific brand or item is approved, and how the cash-value benefit for fruits and vegetables works.

Approved WIC Foods in Washington

Washington WIC gives every household a WIC Shopping List and Shopping Guide at their appointment showing exactly which foods, brands, and package sizes are approved — items like milk, cheese, eggs, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, beans, peanut butter, and infant formula. Participants who are fully breastfeeding receive extra food amounts. The full current list is available through the free WICShopper app or at doh.wa.gov.

Cash Value Benefit for Fruits and Vegetables

Every participant gets a monthly Cash Value Benefit (CVB) to spend on fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables at authorized stores — $26 a month for children, $48 for pregnant or postpartum participants, and $52 for breastfeeding participants. Benefits don't roll over, so use them before the end of each benefit period.

The WICShopper App and Online Ordering

Use the WICShopper app to scan barcodes and instantly check whether an item is approved, view your benefit balance, and find WIC-authorized stores and farmers markets near you. Many participating retailers also support WIC Online Ordering for pickup or delivery. Look for "WIC Accepted Here" signage at authorized stores.

Washington WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP)

Washington WIC participants can get FMNP benefits — $30 for each WIC participant, up to a maximum of $90 per family — loaded onto a QR code redeemable at authorized farmers markets and farm stores each growing season. Benefits can be spent on local, fresh, unprocessed fruits, vegetables, and cut herbs grown in Washington or in bordering counties of Idaho and Oregon. Ask your local WIC clinic whether you're eligible and how to get your FMNP QR code, or contact the FMNP team at 1-800-841-1410, extension 2.

Shopping Tips

Only buy the WIC foods and amounts shown on your Shopping List, and let the cashier know you're using a WIC Card before they start scanning. You can shop as many times as you like while benefits are active, and your receipt shows your remaining balance and benefit end date — snap a photo of it in case you have questions later. If an item won't scan as approved, check the WIC Shopping Guide or ask store staff whether they can order it.
