Louisiana WIC Approved Foods
Updated August 2026
Once you're approved for Louisiana WIC, your benefits are loaded monthly onto a WIC card that works like a debit card at authorized stores. Here's what's covered, how to check whether a specific brand or item is approved, and how the cash-value benefit for fruits and vegetables works.
Approved WIC Foods in Louisiana
Louisiana WIC food benefits are loaded monthly onto an eWIC card accepted at authorized grocery stores statewide. Your specific food package — covering milk, eggs, whole grains, cheese, beans, and infant foods — depends on your participant category and is set at your certification appointment. Use the free myWIC app to check your balance and scan products in the aisle, or the WICShopper app to check food eligibility without a WIC account.
Cash Value Benefit for Fruits and Vegetables
Every participant receives a monthly Cash Value Benefit (CVB) to buy fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables without added sugar, salt, or sauces. For the current benefit year, the CVB is $26 a month for children, $48 for pregnant or postpartum participants, and $52 for breastfeeding participants. Benefits do not roll over, so use them before the end of each benefit period.
Farmers' Market Nutrition Program
Louisiana WIC's Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) gives eligible participants a separate FMNP Shopper Card loaded with $50 per participant to spend on fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and cut herbs at authorized farmers markets and roadside stands across the state. Cards are issued through participating clinics until September 30 each year, and benefits must be used by November 30. Look for the yellow "Farmers Market Nutrition Program Cards Welcome" sign — FMNP cards cannot be used at grocery stores, and regular eWIC cards cannot be used at farmers markets that don't accept FMNP.
Shopping Tips
The myWIC app's barcode scanner checks whether a product is approved before you put it in your cart, tied to your current benefit balance. The WICShopper app lets anyone — even before applying — scan products or browse the food list to see what Louisiana WIC covers. Both apps are free on the App Store and Google Play in English and Spanish. If an item won't scan as approved at checkout, check your current shopping list or ask your local clinic.
